James 1:17 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. NASV
What gifts do you have in your life? Think about them right now. What thing has gone right? What love is in your life? Do you have food? Clothing? Are you breathing? Are there flowers or pets or beautiful music or trusted friends or birds singing?
Do you understand that every good thing you have comes from the Lord, not from you or anyone else? If He takes care of your small needs, do you not think that He will take care of your large needs? Do you think you need to protect yourself from “something bad”, when He has made sure you have toothpaste in your bathroom? He is not your maid, just taking care of minor things in your life. He is your Creator, your Father, who takes care of big and small. He brings you a cup of milk, and also fights off bears and lions for you. He protects you and gathers you to Him, and He does not change.
Luke 12:4-7 “I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that have no more that they can do.
12:5 “But I will warn you whom to fear: fear the One who, after He has killed, has authority to cast into hell; yes, I tell you, fear Him!
12:6 “Are not five sparrows sold for two cents? Yet not one of them is forgotten before God.
12:7 “Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows. NASV
If He knows the number of hairs on your head (and then updates that number every time during the day that a hair sprouts or falls out!), then He is paying enough attention to you to guide you in a wonderful, blessed life in Him. It is really time for you to accept that! Even when bad things happen, because this is a fallen world, He will make every single thing work to your good when you trust Him, when you love Him.
He can only bless you in certain ways right now because you only trust Him in certain ways right now. There are things that you do not trust Him with at all. Do you see what I just said? You do not trust your Father in Heaven, the Creator of the Universe! I didn’t either! In fact, I am still learning deeper trust in Him but it is not because He is not trustworthy—He is ALWAYS faithful and never changes, never slumbers, never sleeps.
No, I am learning to trust Him because I am not faithful. I change. I slumber. I sleep.
We are like children who are perfectly cared for, but refuse to understand when our Father tells us He has everything under control. We panic for nothing. Read again the previous passage, Luke 12: 4-7. We are afraid of what happens to our bodies here on earth. We are afraid of being cold, being naked, being robbed, being sick, being alone. We are NOT afraid of the Lord; we fear what is on earth more than the Lord.
We are more afraid for our bodies than our souls.
Understand that your body is just clothes for your soul. What makes you you will live forever. Do not protect your mortal “clothes” by sacrificing your soul, as well as your relationship with the Lord. He knows the hairs on your head—He certainly is strong enough and wise enough and has shown Himself worthy and conscientious enough for you to trust Him with your life.
You are worth more than many sparrows, and He is faithful and strong enough to work everything out for your good and to guide you into all righteousness. Accept all of His gifts, not just the ones that are easy for you to take.
