As I was finishing the Flesh vs Spirit page, the Lord reminded me of a passage in Hebrews. When I read part of it, I was floored. Not only did this continue what we had been talking about, but He also showed me a verse that, frankly, I do not remember seeing in there, but that is so pertinent to the passages you and I were going through!
Hebrews 2:14 Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death–that is, the devil–
2:15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. NIV
Jesus became human so that He could “free those who….were held in slavery by their fear of death.”.
Doesn’t that just sound so much like us? The Word says “held in slavery by their FEAR of death.”. Now, you might not fear death per se (or maybe you do), but you are trying to save your lifestyle in terms of avoiding all pain, death, discomfort, change. You are trying to save your life, your lifestyle, your idea of how you want things to be.
You are no longer a slave, but you can choose to sit in the prison (it is made of iron bars, after all, so you feel safe there).
Or you can step out in obedience to the Lord and be healthy and free.
