We have spent some time going through our spiritual recuperation. I hope that you found it refreshing, a balm for your soul, to know that you are holy and dearly loved and are thoroughly embracing His love and blessings for you.
If you still feel condemned, if you still feel lost or unloved, please let me encourage you to go back to that section and review. Listen. Absorb. There is no reason for you to feel lost or unloved—you are neither. The Lord knows right where you are and He loves you. Any hesitation you feel is from you, not Him, so go back and rest in His love, allowing Him to begin the mighty healing He has for you.
Remember when we said that we had to be gentle with your spirit, but stern with your mind? That is where this section comes in. Your mental recuperation involves retraining your brain, unlearning all those bad mental habits you have spent so much time developing. This is where you will learn more fully the wisdom of God’s Word and how it applies to your mental habits.
Some of this might be tough…but it’s not too tough because the Lord has already defeated this in you. You just have to obey Him.
Some of this might be easier than you think. After all, your spirit is much more healed than it had been in the beginning of your journey. You can see the wisdom, love, protection, and guidance of the Lord.
I want to bring up two very important points: The first is to remember the difference between “can’t” and “don’t want to”. There is nothing that you cannot do, because the Lord desires your healing. He will give you the strength to accomplish it, but you have to obey Him.
No, generally when we say “I can’t” it really means “I don’t want to…it’s too hard. Too troublesome. I like doing this. I am comfortable. I do not want to change this part.”. Please let me admonish you that those thoughts will undermine your healing quickly! Those are the footholds that the enemy will use to invade your mind. The commands of the Lord are not burdensome, but they are necessary. Do not skip lessons, picking the ones you like or the ones you agree with first. These lessons are all important. It is sort of like a palette of paints. Your favorite color might be blue, and you might hate red, but a painting that is only blue is not complete. Likewise using only some of the tools, but not all of them, will leave you incomplete in your healing.
To put it another way, have you heard this nursery rhyme? For want of the nail, the shoe was lost. For want of the shoe the horse was lost. For want of a horse, the rider was lost. For want of the rider, the message was lost. For want of the message the battle was lost. For want of the battle, the war was lost, for want of the war the kingdom was lost…and all for the want of a horseshoe nail.
You see? Little things might not seem important, but they are. This is your mind we are talking about. This is your life we are talking about. This is spiritual warfare and your soul and the Lord’s Word we are talking about….do not be haphazard in your healing because “I don’t want to do it”.
Now, you might try and fail. That is ok, you aren’t expected to be perfect. Just repent and try again. It might take some time to break a bad mental habit, but oh the peace and freedom you will have when you do! Give yourself time and patience, and do not give up. The Lord is not going to give up on you, so you don’t give up on yourself.
The second thing I want to say is that, because this section is probably more stick than carrot, you might find yourself losing heart–don’t. Remember, the Lord loves you! He has provided this for you. Just go back into the spiritual recuperation section and bathe in His love for you. Go to His feet and let Him comfort you. Then go back and tackle this with His strength, not yours. Remember, He already won this battle. You just have to walk on the path He is guiding you on. You have this path in front of you because you are READY for it and He knows it.
